For over 15 years, singers of the Rock Hill, SC. based barbershop quartet called the 4 Chordsmen have been singing Valentines greetings to individuals all over our area. The 4 Chordsmen are for hire to sing at events and deliver personal greetings for birthdays, Valentines Day, and holidays. Talk of the Town Carolinas Patti Mercer had a chance to interview and hear the quartet. Funds raised by the 4 Chordsmen benefits the nonprofit Showtime Theatre Company based at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. Be sure to watch the 4 Chordsmen sing a Valentines Day greeting ?Let Me Call You Sweetheart? to Patti near the end of the video.
Ron Russell – Bass, Michael Mendenall – Tenor, Gary Davis – Lead , Larry Rollins – Baritone, are the 4 Chordsmen. All members have been singing much of their life and enjoy signing the barbershop quartet style to audiences of all ages. Ron said performances at schools and retirement homes have been some of group?s most memorable experiences. Michael said their barbershop style of signing touches the hearts of people.
In this video is a clip of the 4 Chordsmen singing a Snap, Crackle, Pop song in honor of Vernon Grant who was a famous Rock Hill based illustrator who created the Snap, Crackle, Pop characters.
Barbershop singing originated in the late 1800s and early 1900s in America. A barbershop quartet is a group of four singers who sing music in the barbershop genre of singing, which uses four-part harmony in a capella style. The group consists of a lead, the vocal part which generally carries the tune/melody; a bass, the part which provides the bass line to the melody; a tenor, the part which harmonizes above the lead; and a baritone, the part that completes the chord with the note not being sung by the lead, bass, or tenor singers. The 4 Chordsmen are a true Barbershop quartet.
For special occasions, the 4 Chordsmen have special greetings offers. Here is their Valentines Day offer.
